Auto Tour: Stop 9
You are now at the US Forest Service Boundary and the end of the tour. From here you can look across the meadow to a grove of trees. This is the location where Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood Creeks come together. Earlier the Journal reads that they stopped and rested near an “ever-flowing spring”. That spring is still ever flowing today and is protected in the small brown house seen beside the ranch houses. The Expedition spent time here letting their horses rest and enjoy the pasture. After leaving the pasture they would be “overtaken by a Tabehjuachi Yuta, who was the first they had seen”. They camped there on August 23rd, 1776 naming the spot La Fuente de la Guia, or “The Guide’s Fountain” and waited until the next day for their guide to return. And he did.
