Auto Tour: Stop 3

This pull-off is located under the large tree. You are beside the San Miguel River. While scholars continue to debate the exact location of the path the expedition took to ascend from El Rio De San Pedro, you can see from traveling down the river to here how careful one must be in choosing a safe route up the hill. The journal describes “…we crossed the river, went up a rather high and steep incline, but not too rocky…” Did you notice any places
along the way that give you a safe route out of the canyon? As you cross the bridge and wind your way up Calamity Draw, think about what the terrain would have been like in 1776.
