Key sources behind the content for this website:

Ted Warner’s 1976 edition of “The Domínguez-Escalante journal: their expedition through Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico in 1776.” This book includes the Spanish text of the journal, along with an English translation by Angelico Chávez. Excerpts from the translated journal are found on each of the Journey pages. A full copy of the report (PDF) has been digitized with the permission of the Warner family.

David Miller’s 1976 report, “The route of the Domínguez-Escalante expedition, 1776-77: a report of trail research conducted under the auspices of the Domínguez-Escalante State/Federal Bicentennial Committee and the Four Corners Regional Commission,” has been a keystone for DEEEP’s Field Teams. The Miller teams re-traced the steps of the Domínguez-Escalante expedition in 1976, and their notes were used as a starting point for DEEEP team members. Excerpts from the Miller report have been included on each of the Journey pages. Read the full copy of the report (PDF).
