Copyright Statement
What does Copyright mean and why is it important?
What is copyright?
“Copyright is a form of protection grounded in the U.S. Constitution and granted by law for original works of authorship fixed in a tangible medium of expression. Copyright covers both published and unpublished works.” Taken from https://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-general.html
There are some resources in DEEEP’s website that have protection of their own under copyright laws. These include the resources given by Utah Historically Quarterly and the New Mexico Historical Review. Both have given permission for DEEEP to include their material on the DEEEP website.
One of the most important gifts that DEEEP has received is from the Dr. Ted J. Warner family. Dr. Warner wrote two editions of his book, The Domínguez-Escalante Expedition Journal. His family has given DEEEP permission to use the edition published by the Brigham Young University Press in 1976. This book contains important information that is not included in the later edition. This edition is no longer in print but a copy can be found for your use under DEEEP Resources, again as gift from the family.
So now with an understanding of what copyright is, it is easy to understand that all of the materials (including maps and photos) found on this website are protected by copyright and can not be used without permission.
The goal of DEEEP has always been to create a website that will tell the amazing adventure of the Domínguez–Escalante Expedition in 1776. This website has always been planned to be a gift to the school children of Colorado, therefore teachers and librarians have permission to use the information found on the website with proper credit given.
What DEEEP does NOT give permission is for any individual or entity to make a profit off of any of the material, maps, photos found on this website. They are a gift to the children of Colorado and are to remain so.
