As you look out across the farm land and ranches, which would have been sage brush, piñon, and cedar trees in 1776 you can imagine an expedition of 12 men and 20 horses riding across. The Journal entry for August 22, 1776 states, “On the 22nd we left El Paraje de San Luis, crossed the river, went up a rather high and steep incline, but not too rocky, and started over an extensive mesa this is like a piece off La Sierra do los Tabehuachis..”.
Note: please do not block the gates into the ranch. This is private property, do not trespass.
The berm in the middle of this triangle is used to unload cattle. The semi backs up and a ramp supported by the berm allows the cattle to unload. Be mindful to not fall into the hole.

Crossing Main Street, Nucla, Colorado at 6.9 miles. At mileage 8.4, the junction of CC Road and 3000 Road, keep to the right.
